A painting on the wall
- Celebrate the work of artist SJ Peploe at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh until 23 June 2013 as part of the Scottish Colourist Series. Admire the collection of over 100 still life and landscape paintings from the Edinburgh-born artist, who was the most successful of the four artists who made up the influential Scottish Colourists.
- Uncover the mysteries of the Eqyptians at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in a new exhibition Pharaoh - King of Egypt which opens on 3 November. Showcasing 130 objects from the British Museum's outstanding Egyptian collection, this is the biggest such collections outside Egypt. Artefacts include sculptures, bronze figures (pictured), jewellery, weapons and written works on papyrus.
- Don't miss the John Bellany - A Passion for Life exhibition which marks the 70th birthday of the East Lothian born painter at the Royal Academy in Edinburgh between 17 November and 27 January 2013. Featuring watercolours, paintings and prints from throughout Bellany's career, this exhibition is the largest display of his work for over 25 years.
Cutting edge designs 
- Admire the impressive creations of architect father and son, William and Robert Adam, two of the most influential designers of the 18th century. William Adam's work includes Duff House and Haddo House in Aberdeenshire, House of Dun in Montrose (now owned by the National Trust for Scotland - NTS) and the extension of the stunning Hopetoun House in South Queensferry. The north side of Edinburgh's Charlotte Square, including the NTS's Georgian House and Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, feature the work of Robert Adam.
Historic buildings
- Immerse yourself in the royalty of Stirling Castle and the beautifully restored Royal Apartments of the Palace of James V, one of the finest examples of Renaissance buildings in Britain, and look out for characters from the period.
- Discover the many ancient sites on Scotland's islands, including the Neolithic Skara Brae on Orkney, Callanish Stone Circles on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides and the historic Kilmartin Glen in Argyll which boasts over 800 monuments within a six-mile radius.
