Further north, the Huntly Hairst Food and Farming Festival has gone from strength to strength over the past five years and celebrates the foods and traditions of Aberdeenshire in September.

If you like your craft beers and ales then the Aberdeen & North East CAMRA Beer Festival in May should is not to be missed. The Campaign for Real Ale's most northerly festival features 100 cask ales from across Britain.

In August, Cullen Skink, the smoked haddock and potato soup delicacy, takes centre stage in the town of Cullen, near the border with Aberdeenshire. Now in its second year the championships aim to find the very best exponent of this popular dish and draws entries from across the region.
