The west coast is renowned for the quality of its seafood, as well as the excellent range of beers and ales that are produced across the region. Furthermore, the fertile coastal lands have resulted in deliciously succulent meats which are available on restaurant menus throughout Argyll & The Isles.
If you’ve been inspired by these delicious flavours, then head along to one of the regular farmers’ markets or farm shops along the west coast. Usually held monthly, the markets run from Campbeltown to Lochgilphead and there’s also a bi-monthly Local Food and Crafts (Lorn) market in Benderloch, just north of Oban which features a selection of food and drink and locally produced crafts. The Cairndow and Loch Fyne Market set amidst the beauty of Loch Fyne also offers an unforgetable day out where you can round off your day with a special meal at the renowned Oyster Bar.
Chat to the stallholders and pick up mouth-watering raw ingredients including beef, lamb, game, seasonal fruit and vegetables and a fantastic choice of freshly caught seafood. The producers are always happy to share any expert advice to ensure you get the best from their produce.
