Think seafood, think Argyll & The Isles. The region has long been praised for the quality of its seafood and together with an excellent range of seasonal fruit and vegetables, mouth-watering meats and exclusive whiskies and ales, its local produce is second to none. So what are you waiting for? Come and experience the true flavour of the region for yourself.

Seafood

From scallops and langoustines to smoked salmon and fishcakes, the seafood of the west coast has to be tasted to be believed.  Embark on a culinary adventure and discover the very best fruits de mer along the Seafood Trail which includes the much celebrated Loch Fyne Oyster Bar.

Another treat along the way is the harbour town of Oban which is known as Scotland’s seafood capital due to the many eateries where the menus are bursting with fresh fish dishes.

Further east, stop by the Inverawe Smokehouse at Taynuilt and discover how traditional Scottish smoked salmon is produced at the visitor centre’s exhibition before sampling the delicious smoked fish in the tearoom and gourmet shop.

Seafood from Argyll stars on menus across the country, and the world.  Scallops which are hand-dived by the Ethical Shellfish Company on Mull are served up at top restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles in Perthshire.

It’s not just fish that is popular. You can also pick up an intriguing range of seaweed from Just Seaweed in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute which can be eaten as well as used in spa treatments.

Something for a sweet tooth

No visit to Argyll & The Isles is complete without sampling the region’s sweet treats. Look out for the homemade chocolate delights from the Tobermory Chocolate Factory on Mull, or watch the chocolatiers at work in the factory of the Oban Chocolate Company back on the mainland.

Whiskies, beers and ales

There is no better way to round off an evening of fine food than with a dram from one of Argyll & The Isles’ many distilleries. With an impressive eight distilleries on Islay alone, whisky lovers are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to sampling the drams of the region.

You can also discover thirst-quenching beers and ales produced by Fyne Ales, Oban Bay and the world’s smallest island brewery on Colonsay.
