Eating out in Fife is truly an experience to write home about with restaurant menus bursting with superb local flavours. From award-winning restaurants and takeaways selling fresh Fife seafood, to cafes and tearooms which boast great home baking, there is something to suit all tastes and budgets.

The East Neuk is home to a number of excellent restaurants which serve up a range of exquisite seafood dishes. The Waterfront Restaurant in Anstruther, just a few steps from the harbour and marina, offers only the finest locally caught seafood.

While in Anstruther, head over to the famous Anstruther Fish Bar for delicious fish and chips. With a legendary reputation that does not disappoint, the shop sells locally caught fish and has won several awards in recent years including UK Fish and Chip Shop of the year.

Further north of the East Neuk, the fabulous Ostlers Close Restaurant in Cupar features a top quality menu that is cooked to order. The magnificent Tiel Restaurant & Bar in Auchtertool uses only the finest locally sourced buffalo steak. Enjoy a meal at Room With a View, a great restaurant in Aberdour which was a 2012 Scottish Thistle Award regional finalist.

For something a little sweet, B Jannetta’s ice cream parlour in St Andrews offers more than 50 different flavours of delicious ice cream including Irn Bru sorbet and a millionnaire's shortbread frozen yoghurt.

Fine dining

If you want to really treat yourself, then why not indulge in a spot of fine dining? Fife is home to two restaurants that enjoy the coveted Michelin-star status. The Peat Inn by St Andrews and Sangster’s in Elie both offer mouth-watering menus featuring modern Scottish dishes and fresh local produce.

Other restaurants that are well worth a visit include the Inn at Lathones which has been a holder of two AA Rosettes for the last 14 years, as well as the Mediterranean- influenced Esperante Restaurants at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews.

Craig Millar@16 West End in St Monans has stunning views out over the harbour and beyond to the Firth of Forth. The fine dining restaurant serves fresh, quality produce from Scotland's land and sea.

So whether you’re after fantastic seafood overlooking a harbour, a quick bite to eat in a café in Fife’s bustling towns and seaside villages, or an award-winning meal, then this is region for you.
