From hotels and restaurants with award-winning chefs to traditional country inns, cafés and tearooms, you are sure to find outstanding menus on offer in the Highlands, all using quality local produce.

Experience memorable meals in stunning locations overlooking the sea, by the lochside or with mountain views, or why not take a break in one of the art cafés that offer a great choice of teas, coffees and homebaking? You can also enjoy an evening in a traditional pub or inn and sit by a cosy fire while relaxing with live music, local conversation and a dram or beer.

During your Highland break, enjoy a culinary experience you’ll never forget on the Isle of Skye at the Michelin-starred Three Chimneys restaurant. Dine in the 100-year-old crofting cottage and soak up the intimate atmosphere as you savour delicious Skye produce, cooked with flair and expertise.

Another Skye favourite and Michelin-star holder is Kinloch Lodge, at Sleat, which offers exceptional fine dining with a distinctly traditional Scottish twist. Two other fine restaurants in the Highlands have also been honoured with the coveted award, namely Boath House at Auldearn, Nairn, and The Albannach at Lochinver in Sutherland, Britain’s most northerly Michelin-starred restaurant.

The award-winning Applecross Inn focuses on fresh seafood with much of it fished from the bay. On any given day you could be feasting on prawns, lobster, crab, scallops, mussels or oysters. Meanwhile, the remote Old Forge Inn at Inverie on the Knoydart peninsula is praised for its seafood, venison and real ales.

Further north in Lochinver, dine in the Chez Rouz Restuarant at the Inver Lodge Hotel. The menus are devised by the legendary Albert Roux whose aim is to offer hearty country cooking using the best local produce, such as organic salmon and seabass.

Sample some fine local produce at the Rothiemurchus Centre including venison, beef, trout, heather honey and locally brewed beer. Take a look around the farm shop or sit down to a warming meal of local produce at the Druie Restaurant Café.

While in Inverness, see the finest Highlands and Scottish ingredients turned into unique and original dishes at Café 1, or sample delicious food in a converted church, with period features and modern finishes, at the Mustard Seed.

Head east to the Classroom in Nairn where Cullen Skink, Highland venison and Kildrummie beef are all on the menu, and look out for succulent cooked meat and lovely cakes in the Olive Tree Café in an idyllic location near Forres.

If you're looking to indulge your sweet tooth, the Clootie Dumpling Restaurant in Grantown on Spey serves the traditional Scottish pudding in 21 different ways. Sit outside or keep warm by the wood burning stove in the restaurant.
