Spending a day in one of Dundee & Angus’ parks and gardens is a great way to explore the outdoors. Admire the flowers in the garden, take a stroll around the park or simply relax from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Dundee & Angus boasts a number of brilliant parks and gardens to visit including country parks in Angus and the University of Dundee Botanic Gardens in Dundee.

Discover House of Dun and Gardens with its attractive walled garden and woodland walks. Overlooking the beautiful town of Montrose, the garden has been largely restored to a late Victorian period and includes a range of plants typical of the 1880s.

For a great family day out, head to Dunninald Gardens just south of Montrose. The site boasts extensive grounds with a beech avenue while the woods and wild garden are carpeted with snowdrops in spring and the fabulous bluebells in May.

The delightful Pleasance Gardens at Edzell Castle is an ideal place for a walk. Its walls are decorated with sculpture stone panels and there is also a great opportunity for birdwatching as there are number of niches around for nesting birds. Other fascinating species of wildlife are also regularly spotted.

Spend a morning exploring the fine Italian Garden with its fan-shaped box hedges, 17th century gazebos and fountain at Glamis Castle.

If you find yourself looking for a quiet moment when exploring Dundee, visit the University of Dundee Botanic Gardens and enjoy the wide range of plants, with fine collections of trees, tropical and temperature glasshouses and water gardens. The garden has a popular café to grab a snack or stop for lunch and hosts regular art exhibitions throughout the year.

Caird Park offers a great day out as you can play a round of golf on the 18-hole or 9-hole golf courses, use the winter sports pitches or simply take a walk around Mains Castle and Den o' Mains. Baxter Park was designed by one of the great innovators of the 19th century, Sir Joseph Paxton, and gifted to the city by the Baxter family in 1863. Look out for the pavillion, designed by Paxton's son-in-law, George Henry Stokes, which has been restored and sits amongst 38 acres of mature parkland and sweeping lawns.
