One of the most important of these is the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Montrose Basin Visitor Centre whose viewing galleries and telescopes give great views of the vast numbers of migrating birds that stopover here each year.
The RSPB reserve at Loch Kinnordy also has hides and viewing platforms where the highlights to be spotted include otters and the always spectacular osprey as it swoops down to fish in the loch.
On the Angus coast, follow the Seaton Cliffs Nature Trail from the centre of Arbroath to discover a fascinating array of birds, animals and plants.
Inland, you can watch the 'king of fish', the salmon, leaping at the Rocks of Solitude near Edzell, and forest life around the beautiful Reekie Linn waterfall near Kirriemuir.
In Dundee itself, another must-see wildlife attraction is Camperdown Wildlife Centre, just 15 minutes from the heart of the city. This conservation centre is home to over fifty non-native animals including ring-tailed lemurs, wallabies and brown bears.
