Nature lovers are drawn to Orkney’s pristine coastlines, marshes and clifftops. They’re home to many species of interesting wildlife, particularly seabirds and mammals, and as well as the many nature reserves, hides and trails you’ll find around the Orcadian archipelago, you can also expect to find other must-visit attractions spread across all the islands.

Don't miss the North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory, on Orkney's northern-most island, where you’ll spot migratory birds as they visit the region. Acknowledged as one of the best sites for birdwatching in the country, the sheer number of birds passing by the island in spring and autumn is a spectacular sight.

The Orkney Marine Life Aquarium on South Ronaldsay offers the chance to see some of the important creatures living in the waters around Orkney. Most of the aquatic life has been contributed to by local fisherman working in Scapa Flow, the expansive body of water formerly used by as a Royal Navy base and the final resting place of mighty German battleships. As one of the most popular places to dive in the world, these wrecks regularly give many visitors to the islands an unmissable chance to have far more up close and personal encounters with Orkney’s marine life.
