One of the best ways to get up close to some of Argyll's abundant wildlife is to take a boat trip around the rugged coastline, whether by chartered yacht or aboard any of the numerous operators that run dedicated wildlife-spotting cruises in the area.

You'll find cruise and charter operators located across the region, sailing from Oban, Craobh Haven and Ardfern, as well as from many of the offshore islands including Mull, Islay and Coll.

On a wildlife cruise, you'll be in the hands of experienced skippers and wildlife guides whose great local knowledge will take you to known hotspots that all-but-guarantee spotting all manner of marine life in the clear waters around the Inner Hebrides. You'll be able to see large colonies of grey and common seals, porpoise and common dolphins while the area also boasts some of the best minke whale watching opportunities in Britain.

And of course, the area is rich in seabirds including storm-petrel, fulmars, gannets, skuas, guillemots and razorbill to namely only a few of the species found here. You can also meet some of Scotland's tamest puffins on a day trip from the west side of Mull to the Treshnish Islands.

Being offshore also gives you a new perspective from which to enjoy the stunning Argyll scenery plus you can visit the Corryveckan whirlpool - the third largest whirlpool in the world.
