There's a fantastic variety of wildlife to be seen across Aberdeen City and Shire and some of the best locations to get up close to it and experience it at first hand are the numerous nature reserves across the region.

From the desert-like Sands of Forvie reserve, one of the country’s largest sand dunes, just 12 miles north of Aberdeen to the hides and trails at the Muir of Dinnet, there are plenty of opportunities to experience the region’s animal life firsthand.

With the spectacular arrival of tens of thousands of migrating pink-footed geese each autumn, the RSPB reserve at Loch of Strathbeg, Scotland’s largest landlocked lagoon, is a very popular choice for wildlife lovers from all over the UK. Birdwatchers should also head for the massive seabird colonies at Troup Head and Fowlsheugh reserves.
