Fantastic photos of Scotland from space!

It’s not every day you get to see photos like this! Commander Chris Hadfield, a Canadian flight engineer on the International Space Station, has published some fantastic aerial images of Scotland’s beautiful landscapes from space.

53-year-old Hadfield has become quite the internet celebrity in recent months by harnessing social media to interact with people about life in space, as well as share striking photos of cities and landscapes from around the globe.

On Wednesday it was Scotland’s turn. The astronaut began by tweeting this to his 450,000 plus followers on Twitter:

He then went on to post seven stunning aerial shots of various regions in Scotland including Edinburgh, the Isle of Skye, Glasgow, the North East and Loch Lomond. Check out his photos below:

In response to one follower, Hadfield confirmed that he did have Scottish roots, with his grandmother’s family originally hailing from from the Scottish Borders. He also responded to a tweet from First Minister Alex Salmond about the prospect of visiting Scotland when he touches back down to earth. Commander Hadfield replied by saying he had been to Scotland before (from Oban to Aberdeen) but mentioned there was ‘so much more to see and do’.

Possibly the best tweet of the day came from Glen Sloss, who tweeted a photo of his view of the astronaut from the Isle of Arran:
