We are continuing our round of catch ups with some of the great travel enthusiasts who attended #blogmanay, a unique chance for people to instantly share their Hogmanay experiences in Scotland. If you missed it, check out our post on #blogmanay.
We caught up with JD Andrews from earthXplorer, a visual travel blogger who has 20 years experience and over 83 countries under his belt so far. JD has a keen interest in video and imagery – so you’ll always be left in awe at his eye for incredible visuals, a selection of which can be found at the bottom of this post – enjoy! We caught up with JD earlier this month.
(1) Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your name and what’s your blog about?
I’m JD Andrews, also known as earthXplorer. Travel is my passion; creating inspiring and evocative videos and photographs is my profession. Social media is the way I connect with the world and share both of these. I’m a multi-Emmy winning video producer with more than 20 years experience traveling the globe (86 countries across all 7 continents), shooting and editing travel/tourism videos for various cruise lines, airlines, and tourist boards. I became involved in Social media back in 2007, a few years later becoming one of the most influential travel people on Twitter and winning the Shorty award for travel in 2011.
(2) You’ve been to Scotland before and wrote that you enjoy exploring places off the beaten track – as seen in your great photo article about the town of Kirkudbright in Dumfries and Galloway. What’s the quirkiest / most interesting experience you had this time round?
While in Loch Ness we visited The Clansman Centre where “Ken the Clansman” went through the history, weapons, dress, living conditions and the over all life of a Highlander. I learned more in that short time then in all the days I’ve spent Scotland. It was fascinating. Seeing the actual weapons and hearing how they were used was beyond incredible! I recommend anyone interested in Scottish history plan a stop here, you won’t be disappointed.
(3) If you could recommend one place in Scotland, what would it be, and why?
Wow, that’s a tough question – there are so many amazing places to see in Scotland! If I had to choose, I would say the Highlands.
The landscape is so different and so beautiful. From the wild animals you’ll see, to all the stories and history, the Highlands are my favourite. I guess that’s why they were featured in the new James Bond movie.
