The countdown is on; with not long to go until the Music of Black Origin Awards (MOBO) in Glasgow, now in its 18th year, we thought we’d give you a rundown of what you can expect from this evening of top British and international artists (and you can bet your bottom dollar there will be a good helping glitz and bling thrown in).
The night is set to be full of unforgettable performances from a diverse range of acts. Set to storm the stage is Australian rap sensation, Iggy Azalea along with euphoric sounds from Rudimental and multi-award-winning London artist, Tinie Tempah, all of which are bound to get you on your feet. Perhaps most widely anticipated to perform is the breakthrough soul singer Laura Mvula, whose stunning debut album was released earlier this year.
So Solid Crew are reforming especially for what is bound to be an energetic performance from the MC collective and former MOBO winners. Their biggest hit, 21 Seconds (remember that one?), was described by the Daily Telegraph as a ‘club smash’ delivered by ‘grime’s amply-staffed pioneers ’ and features in the publications list of 100 songs that defined the noughties.
Audiences will also be treated to performances from Afrobeats star Fuse ODG and powerhouse vocalist Jahmene Douglas, finalist of TV talent show X Factor. As well as top-class entertainment, artists from a variety of genres and categories will pick up awards.
The MOBO Awards are part of the packed programme of music events set to take place in the newly-opened SSE Hydro arena this month. Located right beside the River Clyde near the heart of the city, this spaceship-style ‘music Coliseum’ is the perfect venue for this vibrant awards ceremony. This will be the third time the MOBO Awards have been held in Scotland’s largest city.
There’s still time to get one of the hottest tickets in town, with prices starting at only £25. Why not make a weekend of it and enjoy the city’s great shopping, restaurants, bars and nightlife?
Glasgow, are you ready for MOBO 18? We are.
