On the banks of the Solway Firth, in the south west of Scotland, lies the mesmerising WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre.

Just like the spirited Merida on the big screen, who enjoys nothing more than exploring the magic of the great outdoors, you too can immerse yourself in this stunning countryside with a visit to the nature reserve where the wild world still has the power to touch, thrill and inspire.

Take a journey of discovery on the river walks and trails through the beautiful summer wildflower meadows and wetlands. In autumn and winter, marvel at the wildfowl spectacular of thousands of geese, ducks and swans under the big Solway skies.

Get your binoculars at the ready to spot a fascinating range of birds at one of the many hides across the reserve. With three observation towers, three large hides and 18 small hides overlooking the wetlands, you’re guaranteed many sightings. There is even a special heated swan observatory, and you can follow the progress of the osprey and barn owl nests in the summer months, with a live CCTV feed.

Caerlaverock is also home to the informative Old Granary Visitor Centre, complete with a fair-trade coffee shop, theatre and gift shop.
