    Housed in an old Victorian school building, Newton Stewart Youth Hostel provides a warm and friendly atmosphere and is a great base for outdoor enthusiasts, families and wildlife watchers looking for budget accommodation. The youth hostel offers good basic facilities which include a self-catering kitchen, family sized bedrooms, a laundry and drying room, secure bike storage and ample on-site parking.

    There are opportunities for fishing, pony trekking, wildlife watching and hill walking within the Galloway Forest Park and along the coast. The Forest Park also is the UK's first Dark Sky Park offering spectacular stellar viewing on a clear night. Mountain bikers can take the challenges at 7Stanes forests at Glentrool & Kirroughtree, The Southern Upland Way is only 8 miles away and the Suntran Cycle Route 7 passes the youth hostel on the way to Highlands.

    Road Directions

    From A75 follow signs for Newton Stewart. Look for Minnigaff signs by the bridge. Turn into the road by the Cree Inn and the youth hostel is 650 yards on the left. From A714 (north) enter Newton Stewart, turn left for Minnigaff at junction, cross the bridge, then first left -  hostel is 650 yards.

    Public Transport Directions

    Getting there by bus: A bus is available from Newton Stewart to Minnigaff that drops off outside the hostel. Minnigaff is within walking distance of Newton Stewart (0.5 mile).

    Getting there by train: The nearest train station is Stranraer (25 miles) - take bus 75x or 500.

    Getting there by air: From Prestwick Airport follow the A77 south to Girvan then take the A714 to Newton Stewart, turn left over bridge to Minnigaff and first left again following hostel signs.

    Getting there by ferry: From Stranraer take the A75 to Newton Stewart drive through town following main road over River Cree, turn left just after the bridge. The hostel is a half mile down the road on the left.
