The P.S. Waverley in Brodick Bay
Climb aboard the P.S. Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world. There is simply no better way to explore the lochs and islands of Arran, Cumbrae and nearby Bute than aboard this magnificent classical boat which has been beautifully restored with towering funnels, timber decks and gleaming varnish and brass.
With so many connections to Burns, Ayrshire & Arran boasts a wide range of related attractions. Why not spend a day or two exploring his spectacular legacy?
The new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum was nominated for UK Museum of the Year in 2011 and is also home to the Burns Cottage, historic landmarks where he set his greatest work and the elegant Burns Monument and gardens that were created in his honour. Continuing along the history theme, the magnificent Dean Castle and Country Park in Kilmarnock is a must-visit attraction. Set within a beautiful country park, you can discover world-class collections of historical objects including weapons and armoury, before letting the kids try out the playground and pets corner.
Take the time to witness the Isle of Arran’s historic past at the 14th century Lochranza Castle, now a magnificent ruin, and Brodick Castle, which has a remarkable history that dates back 1,500 years.
For something a bit different, enjoy a day out with the animals at Heads of Ayr Farm Park, a wonderful family-friendly attraction that lets you see, touch and feed around 50 different exotic creatures from monkeys to meerkats.
