Grandfathers House

Self Catering

13, Northton, Isle of Harris, HS3 3JA

Grandfathers house is a four star cosy selfcatering cottage specially designed for couples wishing for a quiet romantic break.

Wild, wonderfully remote on a beautiful rocky coast with many white sand beaches, The Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides – these cottages revel in creativity. You'll love it if you crave adventure, for this far-flung crofting village on Harris's rocky south coast, transforms in spring sunshine into a stunning sweep of wildflowers and birds. Wild walks and the unspoiled beautiful nature are the main attraction; for nightlife, look not for neon lights but stars.

Ganet and Fulmar are sky blue 5-star family bungalows built to withstand the elements: in winter, cuddle by the stove as you gaze out at storm-lashed seas, or bubble in a Jacuzzi tub in luxurious bathrooms with steam showers, small saunas, and tartan towels. These luxurious self-catering cottages offer spectacular views over the white sands of Scarista beach and the ocean beyond and cater for couples or families up to 5 persons. Each cottage has two luxury bedrooms with ensuites. The master bedroom offers a high quality bed with memory foam king mattress, jacuzzi, steam shower and small sauna; the other bedroom has 3 single beds (2 can be put together to accommodate as a king size), a steam shower, toilet and washbasin. Gannet and Fulmar have their own ¼ acre plot and private parking.

Grandfather's House is truly special: a chunky stone cottage with deep jewel-like windows enjoying limited beach views. Inside are fun furnishings, a wood-burning stove and open-plan bedroom and bathroom. A former blackhouse, this lovely cottage oozes romance and caters for one couple - a popular choice for an idyllic honeymoon week. For those special occasions, champagne, wine, chocolates, flowers can be arranged and put in place with a note prior to arrival.

The house boasts excellent views over sea loch Obbe, Leverburgh and the remote South Harris hills. You can see the ferry to the Uists coming in, or Kilda cruises leaving for St. Kilda from the master bedroom. There is a pub and restaurant just a 5-minute walk away, and the beautiful beaches either of Northton and Scarista are within a 5-minute drive. This big family house has 2 bathrooms and sleeps up to 8 people.

Jan and Suzan are warm hosts who will go out of their way for you – or leave you in peace to enjoy fishing, biking, seal-watching, and kayaking. Enjoy excellent fishing opportunities (salmon/trout) in the sea loch in front of Kilda house and other fishing estates on the island, or play golf at the stunning golf course at Scarista. Reviews state that most of our guests have enjoyed spotting seals, the golden eagle, otters, eiders, puffins, dolphins or porpoises. Welcome to a true Hebridean holiday experience!
