    Fort William is an ideal centre for walking or climbing being situated at the foot of Ben Nevis (the highest mountain in Britain) and the Nevis Range Ski Resort is nearby for skiing in winter or just walking, climbing or mountain biking at other times, or just taking a trip up 2,000 feet on the Gondola Cable Cars and Glencoe is just a twenty minute drive away from Fort William.

    The famous `Jacobite` Steam Train also operates between Fort William and Mallaig from mid May until the end of October and although it has always been a beautiful and famous train journey, it has been made even more famous since being used in the `Harry Potter` Movies...in fact the Fort William to Mallaig trip has three times recently been voted the most beautiful train journey in the world!

    From the nearest information centre:- From Fort William Tourist Information Centre, turn right for 50 metres - cross road - go up steps and road for 200 metres to Alma Road - turn left for 'Number 81'. By car, travel north on A82 Belford Road - pass Hospital and Church - Alma Road first turn off on right (50 metres past Church).

    Getting there by railway:- From Fort William Railway Station (or Bus Station), cross main road to Fassifern Road (behind hotel) - walk 100 metres and turn left up two flights of steps to Alma Road - 'Number 81' 150 metres on right.
