    Discover what life was like for local children living in the Highlands through history at the Highland Museum of Childhood.

    Set in an old Victorian railway station in Strathpeffer, the Highland Museum of Childhood has a unique and fascinating collection of artefacts relating to growing up in Highland Scotland. Featuring an award-winning film, collection of toys, dolls and costumes there is huge range and selection of things to discover.

    Learn about Highland customs and folklore with a wide variety of interactive displays and hands-on activities. Explore the new exhibition about schools and learning in the Highlands. ‘A Life Learning and Teaching in the Highlands’ explores the life and work of Miss Mary Bruce, a well-loved Highland teacher. Miss Bruce was an avid collector and the museum has a wide range of fascinating records from her own and her parents' childhood as well as from her days as a teacher.
    Visitors can also enjoy looking around the museum shop or have a bite to eat in the coffee shop.

    Public Transport Directions

    Getting there by railway:- From Inverness railway station, follow signs to A9 North then follow signs for Ullapool and Dingwall. At the junction, head for Dingwall then onto Strathpeffer following signs for the Victorian station.

    Getting there by aeroplane:- From Inverness, take the road West to Inverness. Join the A9 at Inverness and follow directions North to Dingwall and Ullapool for 16 miles. At the junction follow signs for Dingwall and thence to Strathpeffer. Follow signs to the Victorian station.

    Getting there by ferry:- From Ullapool ferry terminal, drive East following signs for Inverness. At the village of Contin, follow signs for Strathpeffer and the Highland Museum of Childhood.
