Once the ancient capital of Scotland, Dunfermline lies at the heart of Scotland’s story. The ‘auld grey toun’ has a vivid past, and is a fascinating place to embrace Scottish history and explore ancient abbeys. This year, there will be a fantastic array of festive events bringing the proud town to life, bursting with winter celebrations and Christmas cheer.

Get ready for the festive season with a visit to Dunfermline’s Winter Festival, which officially began on the 23 November, with a magical Christmas Lights Switch On at Glen Gates. Throughout the festival, the streets will be boasting quality live entertainment and exciting, fun- filled family events, including live bands, storytelling, arts and crafts and even a spot of magic.

Winter illuminations 

When night falls, you’ll be able to witness some of the town’s stunning historical buildings lit up benefitting from magnificent new floodlighting, including the beautiful Dunfermline Abbey and Palace and the grand Carnegie Library founded in 1883.

Why not get a little creative with your Christmas shopping?  Kingsgate Centre is hosting a wonderful choice of Christmas markets, from the fabulous Vintage Fayre taking place on 1 December to the Christmas Craft Fayre on 2-8 December. Embrace the opportunity to sample and purchase some delicious ingredients by taking a stroll around Italian Food Market on 18-24 December.

Magical winter walks

Enjoy a brisk walk in Pittencrieff Park, which was gifted by Andrew Carnegie and becomes the perfect winter wonderland over the festive season. Meet the park’s friendly and magnificent resident peacocks and stop off for a warming and comforting bite to eat in the charming Peacock Room café. While you’re there, why not visit Pittencrieff House Museum, and enjoy its formal gardens and lush adjoining woodland?

Electric entertainment

Get into the spirit with lively festive entertainment all the way through December. Jack and the Beanstalk promises to be a memorable and entertaining panto at the Alhambra Theatre, on from 11-28 December, while the Red Hot Chilli Pipers will also make an energetic appearance here on 30 December.
