Iain R. Spink shows how he smokes on location in the traditional way.
The world-famous Arbroath Smokie, famed for its distinctive taste, is the subject of a new dedicated trail around the fishing town of Arbroath in Angus.
The delicious smoke-cured haddock enjoys protected status under European law (PGI) which means that only haddock smoked using specific traditional methods within a 5 mile radius of Arbroath is officially an Arbroath Smokie.
The trail, produced by Taste of Angus, highlights eight restaurants and cafés throughout Arbroath which incorporate Smokies into their dishes, including the But ‘n’ Ben and Gordon's Restaurant. It also includes producers in Arbroath that sell authentic Smokies and recipe ideas such as Arbroath Smokie Cullen Skink and risotto.
The trail is part of a downloadable guide which features a detailed account of the Arbroath Smokie story, from its origins in the nearby fishing of Auchmithie, to its world-famous reputation today.
