Farmers’ markets are a regular feature across towns and villages throughout Scotland. As a region which boasts an abundance of fresh local produce, visitors to the farmers’ markets, farm shops and specialist foodie shops of Ayrshire & Arran are spoilt for choice.
Many of the region’s best producers are brought together in one place by the weekly Ayrshire Farmers’ Market which is held in Ayr, Kilmarnock and Kilwinning. It’s been running for over 10 years and visitors can pick up an excellent range of locally produced food and drink.
Look out for the delicious meats from the countryside including popular Ayrshire bacon and locally reared lamb, or pick up langoustines and lobsters, fresh from the coast. The markets and farm shops are also filled with Ayrshire & Arran’s delicious dairy produce such as cheeses and ice cream which are not to be missed. Speak to the stallholders and meet the local suppliers who will be more than happy to share helpful cooking tips to ensure you get the most out of these wonderful flavours.
For something a little different, head for the popular continental market which has been held several times across the region, offering a selection of produce such as French cheeses and German meats.
