This is a smart 3 star property well located in the heart of Castle Douglas. Sleeping up to seven guests (plus travel cot), it has ample space for a family yet does not feel too big for a couple. This 'pink house' has been in the owner's family for many years and they love being here. It's especially good to be able to pick up some local provisions (artisan bread, deli, quality local meat, something to drink from the microbrewery), then head out for the day or have a potter in the rich variety of shops in the town. How about an early morning stride round the loch - you might see an otter - or an afternoon cycle round the byways? Or take in a local festival, visit an art gallery, join local farmers at the market?
The house is within easy reach of Galloway's beaches, its rolling farmland, and surprisingly remote hills, and there are numerous places of interest to visit. You can walk from the house through the countryside to ancient Threave Castle, ding the bell for the boatman, and spot the osprey or peregrine falcons in season. Or have a wander round Threave's lovely gardens.
45 boasts a fantastic central location a short walking distance from the town's impressive line-up of privately owned shops. There's plenty of choice for eating in or out. Check out the King's Arms or Greek Restaurant for example just a few minutes' walk away. Or take the car and seek out another of Galloway's eating spots, like Gather at Laggan west of Gatehouse of Fleet. Or relax and eat in - we've a good set of pans and plenty of cooking utensils so you can make use of the local produce!
Of an evening see what's on at the Fullarton Theatre, a short walk down to the lochside, at Cat Strand in New Galloway, or venture further, to Dumfries, Newton Stewart, Kirkcudbright... Best to check what is open and any booking arrangements, given possible covid restrictions.
Academy Street is ideally situated for walking, cycling and touring, with many pretty little villages in the area, miles of quiet roads, and spendid off road walks and cycle routes such as in the Mabie, Ae and Dalbeattie forests or in the wild Galloway hills. There's plenty of choice nearby for anglers, golfers and wildlife enthusiasts, and the Dark Sky park is just minutes away by car.
You will be spoiled for choice, whatever the weather, and have the comfort of 45, 'the pink house', to return to at the end of your day!
