     As well as providing an excellent night's sleep and a great breakfast, Schoolhouse also provides a relaxing, friendly and refreshingly different base in the Cairngorm National Park with a genuine welcome for all.

    The spacious bedrooms can be used in double, twin or family formats. For families with more than two children, extra beds can be provided. All bedrooms have en suite or private bathrooms with wonderful showers.

    With maple and bamboo flooring throughout, Schoolhouse is exceptionally clean. All rooms have unique features, all are beautiful and spacious. The lounge has enormous sofas and an open fire, the bright dining room wifi and coffee point. All rooms have traditional cast iron radiators and guests can relax or enjoy a BBQ in the large, attractive garden.

    Owners Alan and Cathy Low are well travelled and have excellent local knowledge. A good range of books, local information and maps is on hand. Cathy is a professional storyteller and guests can choose to listen to a relaxing bedtime story. Cathy asks for a donation to her charity, Schoolhouse Trust to support volunteer teacehrs in India and and Sri Lanka.  Storytelling often provides the highlight of a holiday and is always memorable.

    As Alan and Cathy are English teachers, non-English speaking guests are often delighted to receive impromptu English classes. French and German are also spoken.

    The delightful village of Ballater is surrounded by mountains, forests, rivers and secret glens with wonderful walks. Activity providers offer a range of high quality outdoor experiences and a golf course lies at the bottom of the road. Whisky and Castle country awaits you. Welcome!

     GPS users, the post code is AB35 5QW. 

    If arriving in Ballater from the direction of Braemar or Tomintoul, or on leaving Ballater Visiter Centre, cross the square and turn left into main road (Bridge Street). After passing the church (on your right), turn next right into Victoria Street, ( you may see a sign for Caravan Site and Golf Course). Go along Victoria Street until you pass a small petrol station on your right.  Just after this, there's a crossroads, turn left and drive to the entrance to the caravan site, then turn right into Anderson Road.  Schoolhouse is in middle of this road.  The car park is at the back of the house and Cathy normally directs people there. 

    If arriving from the direction of Aberdeen, follow the A96 road straight from Aberdeen, and on arrival at the Ballater junction, turn right, into Bridge Street.  On reaching the first crossroads, turn left, (you'll have passed the Co-op supermarket on your left, and you'll see the church a little further along on the left but you'll turn left before you pass in front of the church.  Go along Victoria Street until you pass a small petrol station on your right.  Just after this, there's a crossroads, turn left and drive to the entrance to the caravan site.  Turn right into Anderson Road.  Schoolhouse is in middle of this road.  The car park is at the back of the house and Cathy normally directs people there. 

    If travelling by bus, get off at the bus station, and walk down the main road ( Bridge treet), until you pass the church on your right.  Turn next right into Victoria Street, ( you may see a sign for Caravan Site and Golf Course). Go along Victoria Street until you pass a small petrol station on your right.  Just after this, there's a crossroads, turn left and drive to the entrance to the caravan site, then turn right into Anderson Road.  Schoolhouse is in middle of this road.  The car park is at the back of the house and Cathy normally directs people there.

    Aberdeen Airport ( Dyce) is  43 miles from Ballater, and hire car/taxi to Ballater is available at the airport.

    From Aberdeen Bus station, take the 201 or 202 bus to Ballater
