Steam Packet Inn

Inn

Harbour Row, Isle Of Whithorn, Wigtownshire, DG8 8LL

This comfortable inn overlooks the picturesque harbour of Isle of Whithorn at the southernmost tip of the Machars peninsula.

The family-run Steam Packet Inn nestles on the quayside and is a great choice for a place to stay on an active break or leisurely touring holiday in this pretty corner of Scotland. Bought by John and Sarah Scoular in 1984, it is now their son Alastair and his wife Donna who ensure there is a warm welcome for you on your arrival. All seven bedrooms are en suite with bath and power showers, digital TVs with Freeview, tea and coffee facilities and telephones. Five of the deluxe rooms offer extra space with king-size beds and seating areas where you can relax and gaze out across the harbour.

The Steam Packet Inn has developed a reputation in the area for serving fine simple food with an emphasis on the freshest Scottish produce, particularly seafood that is often bought straight from boats landing in the harbour outside the hotel. Make sure you enjoy dinner in the new conservatory restaurant and savour a wonderful view over the harbour as you sample the best local produce.

Whithorn is famous for its connection with St Ninian, who brought Christianity to Scotland. You can discover the tales of the local community and the part it played in the evolution of Christianity in Scotland at The Whithorn Story. The fascinating visitor centre includes an audio-visual presentation, a hands-on exhibition and a tour of the excavation site.
