    Tetherstone is a comfortable croft house in the quiet village of Northton, set in the outstanding scenery of South Harris. It is excellently located for short walks to beaches, machair, hills and bird watching.

    Just a few minutes drive to Leverburgh ferry terminal, St Kilda boat trips, restaurants, shops, golf and fishing.

    There is a £5 reduction per person per night for 2 or more nights.

    Situated in Northton on the beautiful south-west coast of Harris, Tetherstone is ideally located to explore and enjoy the many and varied outdoor and cultural interests the area has to offer.

    Tetherstone is a traditional croft house renovated to provide comfortable accommodation for guests. There are two attractive double bedrooms, both with private bathrooms. Satellite television and radios are in each room and there is a good collection of maps, guides and local-interest books.

    A traditional Scottish breakfast menu is available as well as alternatives to suit vegetarians and people requiring a special diet (please request when booking). Tea and coffee are offered on arrival and are available at all times.

    From the house it is just a few minutes walk to the machair with its rich diversity of flowers, birds and wildlife; secluded and tranquil sandy beaches and rocky shores with otters; the magnificent Scarista sands and coast beyond.

    Leverburgh is three miles away with shops, a post office, restaurants and the Sound of Harris ferry terminal (for Berneray and the Uists). Trips to St. Kilda depart and return to Leverburgh and transport to the boats can be arranged should it be required. Seallam Visitor Centre is half a mile away with exhibitions, Co Lies Thu? genealogy service, cultural events and a retail area. Both sea and loch fishing (brown trout, sea trout and salmon) are nearby as well as the famous Scarista golf course.

    Northton is an ideal centre for walking, cycling, canoeing, surfing, kiting, sand yachting and dinghy sailing.

    There is a regular bus service that will stop at the house with buses to Leverburgh and Rodel as well as Tarbert and Stornoway.

    Northton and its surrounding environment have infinite appeal for anyone who appreciates a stunning natural landscape, where you are free to walk and enjoy the birds and scenery, varied and dramatic weather and a rich cultural heritage.

    Road Directions

    A859 from Stornoway or Tarbert to Leverburgh. 18 miles from Tarbert turn right into Northton (Taobh Tuath).
    From Leverburgh on the Tarbert road, A859. 3 miles from Leverburgh, turn left into Northton (Taobh Tuath).
    Tetherstone is situated half a mile through the village on the right hand side of the road.
    Buses from Tarbert and Leverburgh will stop outside the house.

    From the nearest information centre:- From the Tarbert Tourist Information Centre, take the A859 road almost to Leverburgh. 18 miles from Tarbert turn right into Northton (Taobh Tuath). Tetherstone is situated half a mile through the village on the right hand side of the road.
    Buses from Tarbert and Leverburgh will stop outside the house.


    Getting there by railway:- There are three possible options:
    Rail to Ullapool, then ferry to Stornoway, bus to Northton.
    Rail to Kyle of Lochalsh, bus to Uig on Skye, ferry to Tarbert on Harris, bus to Northton.
    Rail to Oban, ferry to Barra or Uists, bus, ferry from Bernaray to Leverburgh, bus.


    Getting there by aeroplane:- Stornoway airport, taxi or bus to Stornoway, then bus on A859, as above

    Getting there by ferry:- There are three possible options:
    Ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway, bus via Tarbert to Northton.
    Ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert on Harris, bus to Northton.
    Ferry to Uists from Oban, bus, ferry from Bernaray to Leverburgh, bus.
