One of nine distilleries found on Islay, Bruichladdich still uses traditional Victorian machinery to make its whisky.

Located on the Rhinns of Islay, the westernmost part of the island, Bruichladdich Distillery was built in 1881 by the Harvey brothers on the shore of Loch Indaal. They were members of a brewing dynasty who had owned two distilleries in Glasgow in the late 18th century.

The original building was considered state-of the-art for its time, developed from old farm buildings and constructed around a spacious courtyard. Much of the Victorian décor and equipment has been preserved including the original ‘open’ 7-tonne machtun, one of only a handful still in existence.

Using organically grown Scottish barley, Bruichladdich brews an exceptional range of whiskies which includes what is said to be the 'most heavily peated single malt whisky in the world'. Tours are available daily.
