Craignethan Castle

In a picturesque setting overlooking the River Nethan, the oldest part of the castle is a tower house built by Sir James Hamilton of Finnart in the 16th century.

The castle's extensive defences include a caponier - a stone vaulted artillery chamber which is unique in Britain.

From the castle you can take the nature trail where you can explore the deep glen of the Nethan Water.

Visitors with disabilities can can be dropped off outside the castle gate and can access the outer and inner courtyards, the ground level of the main tower, the display point, tea room and shop. Access is not possible to the east wing vaults, the top of the main tower, basement, caponier and ditch.
