Above&UnderWater Shetland

Boat Tour

PO Box 11687, Lerwick, Shetland Islands, ZE1 9BB

Above and below, get the best of both worlds! Join a Shetlander and a biologist for a fun & fascinating boat tour around Bressay & Noss to see seals, seabirds, scenery and spectacular underwater sea life. History, culture, geology, nature and more!

Above the water and below, get the best of both worlds! Above&UnderWater tours feature all of Shetland’s coastal scenery, wildlife and nature, from seabirds to sea urchins, from cliffs to caves, from grey seals to purple starfish. Join Alan & Robbi, the most experienced Nature Guide team around Noss & Bressay, for an intimate and entertaining tour on their classic, twin-engine motor yacht, the Galathea.

Choose the cruise that’s right for you: see the sights & hear the sounds with our 3-hour Discovery Wildlife Adventure Tour; for even more seabirds, take a 3½-hour Noss Cliffs Wildlife Tour; pack it all in on a 2-hour Essential Short Cruise Special; or just relax on the water with a 2-hour ‘Simmer Dim’ Evening Cruise. Our daytime tours feature extended underwater viewing with our remotely operated vehicle (ROV) camera. Sit inside our cosy cabin, watching live video on our large screen, while we explore the amazingly rich and beautiful sea life in Shetland’s waters.

Let native Shetlander Alan Longmuir delight you with entertaining and enlightening stories about Shetland’s nature, geology, history and culture, economics and music. He’s been showing off Shetland’s above-water and underwater wonders since 2001, but since trained biologist and educator Robbi ShoafEnge started working alongside him in 2006, he's developed a more dynamic understanding of animal behaviour. Robbi specialises in interpretive communication: watch her do gannet sign language or show how velvet crabs protect their mates! You’ll be amazed to hear her stories about the intriguing creatures above and below the waves.

The Galathea has extra-large windows and a completely enclosed, heated cabin for comfortable and first-class views of Shetland’s coastal scenery, plus an open aft deck with plenty of seating. Hot & cold drinks are available throughout the tour and there are toilets on board.

We also offer specialist charters for groups, parties, educational field trips and scientific research.

Welcome aboard the Galathea! You’ll get relaxed and warm hospitality second to none.
