Achiltibuie

Towns & Villages

Overlooking the Summer Isles and open sea, Achiltibuie is set in magnificent mountain and coastal scenery on the remote north west coast.

This small adjoining hamlet from the parish of Coigach lies scattered on the hillside above the rocky coast and sandy coves. Boat trips to the Summer Isles are a popular excursion and visitors can enjoy a full range of other activities ranging from fishing and birdwatching to sailing and cliff climbing.

The village's main attraction is the Hydroponicum - 'The Garden of the Future' - where you can take a guided tour of its 'climate zones'. Foodies will love a visit to the Achiltibuie Smokehouse, a few miles up the coast, where you can see meat, fish and game being cured traditionally.

The road north from Achiltibuie through Inverkirkaig is spectacular all the way, working its way through a rocky landscape of valleys and moorland, passing the peaks of Cul Beag, Cul Mor and the sugar-loaf-style Suilven.
