Towns & Villages

The 'city' of Brechin is situated on the banks of the River South Esk in rural Angus. The cathedral (Brechin was once a city) stands boldly alongside a classic 11th century round tower - only one of two such towers on the Scottish mainland.

Brechin Town House and Museum houses a fascinating display which tells the 'City's' story over the last 2000 year.  The Caterthuns, where you can see remains of iron-age hill forts, offers a fantastic insight into the skills of prehistoric man. On Sundays during the summer, listen out for the echo of the Caledonian Railway which wakens the town when the locomotives carry passengers between the Victorian Brechin Station and nearby Bridge of Dun.  The Brechin Castle Centre, situated just off the A90, sits within 70 acres of country parkland and here you can enjoy some retail therapy plus refreshments in the coffee shop.
