Attractions in Orkney

There are many wonderful attractions in Orkney, one highlight being the Heart of Neolithic Orkney which contains awe-inspiring remains such as Skara Brae, a Neolithic settlement established 5,000 years ago. Other attractions include the Italian Chapel, built by prisoners of war, St Magnus Cathedral, founded by Vikings, and the Pier Arts Centre, which offers a permanent collection and touring exhibitions.

Orkney has a fantastic amount of historic attractions thanks to its colourful history stretching back thousands of years. Visit museums to learn more of the history and the actual structures, buildings and houses where people used to live many years ago.

The islands are also well-known for arts and crafts so there are many galleries, craft workshops and shops where you can see items being created and buy some for yourself.

Take the children to see wildlife at one of the nature reserves or simply plan a trip to one of the sandy beaches for a great family day out in Orkney.
