Achue Croft Cottage is a well appointed, comfortable cottage set in delightful countryside deep in the Scottish Highlands. Sit in the south facing, triple glazed sun lounge and enjoy the view of the hills. You can just about see your neighbours if you have a pair of binoculars, and yet you are less than 3 miles from shops, cafes and hotels.
The cottage is a great base for exploring the northern Highlands : you are 1 hour from Inverness, 2 hours from John o 'Groats and 1 hour from the hills of the west coast. Close at hand, there are walks through forests, along the seashore and over the hills. There are opportunities for salmon, trout and sea fishing, golf at Royal Dornoch or at the other 21 courses in the area (the nearest course to Achue is only 2 miles away). Or visit Dunrobin Castle, follow the Pictish Trail, go panning for gold at Kildonan, investigate iron age brochs, go mountain biking, trace the history of the Highland Clearances or watch salmon at the Falls of Shin. You could spot red deer on the hills or roe deer in the woods, look out for ospreys and hen harriers, see otters at Loch Migdale or dolphins in the Moray Firth. Or visit local distilleries or go to the Highland Games. If all that sounds too energetic then there are good restaurants in the area where you can be served excellent local produce. Or just sit in Achue, have a drink, relax and enjoy the peace, fresh air and scenery.
The cottage itself is a nineteenth century croft house which was extensively rebuilt recently. There are 3 bedrooms: a king size double downstairs with en suite, a double upstairs and a twin room. There is a bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with a separate dining area. The facilities and standard are rated "very good" and the whole cottage is centrally heated. All this is contained within a walled garden set well back from the road with good parking. A cot, high chair and children's toys are available.
The croft is actively farmed with a flock of Cheviot sheep. We also keep hens, bantams and ducks and our own free range eggs are part of the welcome pack.
