    Fiona and David welcome you to "Coynachie", which derives from Gallic words meaning meeting place of the waters. Coynachie is set in a beautiful tranquil wooded valley, perfect for peace and quite a great place to relax in rural Aberdeenshire.

    Come and enjoy some a restful stay in our large traditional stone built home. All our bedrooms and bathrooms have been refurbished to a high standard.

    Enjoy a range of 6 circular way marked walks along streams and hills from our front door!

    Easy access to Whisky, Castle and Coastal trails and National Trust and Historic Scotland properties. Farmers Markets; Deveron Fishing Festival; Portsoy Boat Festival; Highland Games;Ceilidhs; Keith and Turriff Agricultural Shows, Huntly Hairst Food and Farming Festival, Haloween in Huntly; are on during the year. Lots of Ancient Standing Stones, Circles and indiviual eg Maiden Stone; Golf Courses, fishing and horse riding are also available nearby. Walkers and cyclists are very welcome and we offer secure storage and drying facilities.


    * If you are interested in fly fishing on the River Deveron, please discuss with us in advance * Coynachie is situated 5 miles from the historic market town of Huntly - with its ancient castle, local amenities, farmers market and excellent public transport links to Aberdeen and Inverness. Huntly is home of the clan Gordon.
    Coynachie is surrounded by young native broadleaf trees such as oak, birch, rowan, juniper, scots pine and alder. New walks through the woods and wild flower meadows and bridges to cross the streams have been established for the use of visitors throughout the year. Beyond the house lies the Clashindarroch, which is one of the best snow holding forests in the country and has many Nordic skiing, walking and mountain biking trails.

    Road Directions

    From Huntly (A96)

    By Car from the Huntly roundabout on the A96, take the exit signed Rhynie (Gartly) A97. Continue straight along the A97 for about 2 miles then slow down to cross a narrow bridge (bus stop is on your right hand side just before bridge and Gartly Community hall (Tillathrowie road) immediately on your right hand side after the bridge). DO NOT exit onto this Tilathrowrie Road exit

    Indicate to turn right off A97 after the bridge crossing (ie 2nd right approx 100m after bridge)  exit the A97 onto the Coynachie - single track road.  (landmarks - there is a house with tall hedge at the entrace junction of the Coynachie Road and then a small white substation building on your left hand side)

    Drive down the single track road 30mph (there can be deer on the road after you pass the open pasture farmlands) Continue on the road for a further 2 miles passing a new house with garage and shortly after passing two cottages, drive a further 400 metres and on your left and you will see the entrance to "Coynachie"  beside our pond, turn left and drive up to the house. Welcome to Coynachie!

     

    From Rhynie (Gartly) A97

    After Gartly stay on A97 heading towards Huntly. Continue passed cluster of houses at Culdrain and Mytice (Tillyminet) road exit. Continue driving towards Bridgend of Gartly. Approx 3miles from Gartly on A97 you will see warning triangle signs 'Forestry vehicles turning' - INDICATE LEFT NOW when you approach these signs and SLOW DOWN as exit for Coynachie road immediately off A97 up on your left hand side after this corner. DO NOT CROSS narrow bridge at bridgend of Gartly or pass bus stop on RHS (you will have missed the Coynachie road turn off!)

    Public Transport Directions

    From Visit Scotland Huntly Visitor Information Centre (seasonal)  travel south along Gordon Street and then straight across the junction onto George V Avenue and continue along until you reach the main Huntly roundabout on the A96. At this roundabout, take the second exist signed A97 Rhynie. Continue straight along this road for about 2 miles and cross a narrow bridge, immediately after the bridge take the second turn on the right signed Coynachie. Continue on this single lane road for a further 2 miles (eventually passing two cottages on your left) and you will see the entrance to "Coynachie" shortly after on your left, beside our pond.

    Getting there by railway:- First ScotRail offers a regular service between Inverness & Aberdeen that stops at Huntly. Local taxi company can take you to Coynachie for final part of your journey, please ask Fiona for taxi telephone numbers.

    Getting there by aeroplane:- From Aberdeen airport at Dyce follow signs for Inverness A96. The journey is 37 miles long and takes approximately 50 minutes by car. As you near Huntly on the A96 you pass a BP garage on your left hand side and, after a further mile, turn left at the next roundabout, signed A97 Rhynie. Continue straight along this road for about 2 miles and cross a narrow bridge (only one car can cross at a time) immediately after the bridge take the second turn on the right signposted Coynachie. Continue on this single lane road for a further 2 miles (eventually passing two cottages on your left) and you will see the entrance to "Coynachie" shortly after on your left.

    Getting there by ferry:- From Aberdeen centre follow signs for Inverness A96. The journey is about 42 miles long and takes approximately an hour by car. As you near Huntly on the A96 you pass a BP garage on your left hand side and, after a further mile, turn left at the next roundabout, signed A97 Rhynie. Continue straight along this road for about 2 miles and cross a narrow bridge (only one car can cross at a time) immediately after the bridge take the second turn on the right signposted Coynachie. Continue on this single lane road for a further 2 miles (eventually passing two cottages on your left) and you will see the entrance to "Coynachie" shortly after on your left.
