Homecoming Scotland 2014: From Red Lion To Ringford

Arts & Cultural

Ringford Village Hall, Ringford, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, DG7 2AL
This local history exhibition was originally displayed in October 2011 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ringford village hall. It features a collection of maps, postcards, photographs, census records, minute books and written memories documents the development of this small Galloway village from the time when it was known simply as ‘Red Lion’. The collection includes items from the now closed Tongland school and Tarff station, the Queenshill estate and mansion house and the story of James Beaumont Neilson and his family ties to the area.

Many new items have been added since its first showing and the exhibition will appeal to both local residents and to those with a more general interest in Scottish ancestry and Scottish history.
