The Border Reader is a small secondhand bookshop set in a tranquil and picturesque spot between the Eildon Hills and the River Tweed, about two miles from Melrose in the Scottish Borders.

We have a medium sized but very select stock of books, which includes; quality contemporary fiction and classics; poetry, philosophy, the arts and a range of academic subjects; history science and other general non fiction; as well as classical music CDs.

Also within the old dairy farmhouse you will find a cafe serving light lunches, home baked cakes and a wide variety of teas and coffees, and showrooms selling furniture, antiques and local arts and crafts. Take a walk outside through beautiful woodlands overlooking the river and you can visit the Old Melrose Interpretation centre to learn about the original site of Melrose abbey.
