Towns & Villages

Biggar is a historic market town on the northern edge of the Southern Uplands.

A royal burgh since 1451, Biggar still retains its medieval layout. The main street is lined with centuries-old houses and Biggar Kirk dates from the 16th century. One of the town’s main attractions is a Victorian puppet theatre while the Biggar Bonfire is an ancient custom that takes place on Hogmanay. Biggar has associations with various historical figures, including William Wallace and Bonnie Prince Charlie. Nearby the popular walk up Tinto Hill gives commanding views over the Clyde Valley.
