Towns & Villages

Kirkcolm is a village on the northern tip of the Rhinns peninsula, with Loch Ryan to its east.

Kirkcolm - formerly known as Stewarton - was established in the early 17th century and remodelled as a planned village in the 1780s, taking its name from a local church dedicated to St Columba.

The village was once a thriving centre of home-produced muslin embroidery but today the area is largely agricultural. In the grounds of Ervie and Kirkcolm Parish Church stands an intricately carved stone cross, dating from at least the 10th century.
