Scotland's international airports, Glasgow, Glasgow Prestwick, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen are served by flights from a growing number of European and long haul destinations. These airports also enjoy excellent links with major European airport hubs including London, Amsterdam, Paris, Reykjavik and Frankfurt which provide many onward connections.

Flights from the USA and Canada

You can fly direct to Scotland from North America with American Airlines, United, Air Transat, Air Canada rouge, Virgin Atlantic, Delta and WestJet. Icelandair operates flights to Glasgow and Aberdeen (commencing March 2016), while services including British Airways, KLM and Air France, among others, fly to main European hubs which can be used for onward travel to Scotland. The major European airport hubs include Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt am Maine, Amsterdam Schipol and Reykjavik-Keflavik Airport. The airports in Scotland enjoy excellent year-round air links with most European and Scandinavian countries to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Glasgow Prestwick and Inverness. There are also seasonal flights from Sumburgh Airport in Shetland to Bergen in Norway, and from Inverness Airport to Geneva in Switzerland. The best way to get to Scotland from Australasia is to fly via the Middle Eastern hubs of Doha with Qatar Airways, Dubai with Emirates or Abu Dhabi with Etihad.

Flights from Asia, Africa and Central and South America

The best way to get to Scotland from Asia and Africa is to travel via European or Middle Eastern hubs. Scotland enjoys excellent links with these hubs so onward travel from them is easy.

The major European hubs are London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt am Maine, Amsterdam Schipol and Madrid Barajas airports. Flights from the Middle East are available from Dubai and Doha.

Those travelling from South America are best to travel via the European hubs, whereas routes from Central America also fly via US hubs.

Travel to Scotland by ferry

Travelling to Scotland by ferry is also a popular option from a number of European countries. Direct routes to Scottish ports operate from Ireland, while ferries also run from the Netherlands to Hull in the north east of England, around four hours drive from the Scottish border, and from Amsterdam to Newcastle, around two and a half hours drive from Edinburgh.
