Scotland offers a fantastic choice of music, theatre and dance performances in the country's beautiful theatre, concert halls and venues. Events during the Year of Creative Scotland included world-class classical music and opera, traditional Scottish music and dance, festivals and theatres.


Listed below are just some of the inspirational events where you could experience Scotland's brilliant performing arts for yourself.

A mixture of music, theatre and dance

  • Discover the National Theatre of Scotland's critically acclaimed production of Charles Dickens' seasonal classic A Christmas Carol at The Old Kirk, Kirkcaldy in Fife between 7 - 30 December. The tale is brought to life with the help of life-size puppets and live music.
  • Don't miss the enchanting interpretation of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker from Scottish Ballet at venues across Scotland from 8 December. Enter the magical world complete with stunning set and costume design, as well as unrivalled choreography.
  • Get into the festive spirit with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, with a special Christmas Concert, performed in Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh  and Aberdeen between 19 - 23 December. The concerts feature popular carols and Christmas tunes and a screening of The Snowman, with the score performed by the orchestra.

  • Join the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for a Weber's Wind Concertos, a concert celebrating the work of the great German Romantic composer, in Glasgow and Edinburgh on 14 - 15 December.
  • Scotland's fantastic music venues boast an eclectic mix of performances, from classical and opera, to funk, punk, folk, rock and much more. Don't miss the full programme of events throughout the year at the grand concert halls of the country's cities, including the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Perth Concert Hall and the brilliant King Tut's in Glasgow. Come and be inspired by unique musical experiences.
