From the mouth of Scotland’s longest river, the Tay, to gushing waterfalls amidst the Angus Glens and tranquil reservoirs lying in country parks there are plenty of opportunities to take part in water sports, whether you prefer to be in it or on it in Dundee & Angus.

The pleasant surroundings and safe access to the placid waters makes Monikie Country Park ideal for trying your hand at sailing. The Ranger Service runs a programme of courses in the summer months, catering mainly for beginners.

For those a bit more experienced, the banks of the River Tay at Broughty Ferry make for great sailing conditions. The tidal nature of the river allows for great sailing conditions yet provides shelter from the harshness of the open seas.

Further along the shoreline in Angus there are a number of opportunities to explore the delightful coastline. Sea kayakers will enjoy paddling in the stunning sandstone cliffs and caves, which are only accessible at low tide, in Arbroath as well as secret bays at Carnoustie, Lunan and Montrose.

As well as its stunning beaches, the calm waters and strong breezes of Lunan Bay near Montrose make it one of the best surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing destinations in Scotland.

The faster flowing waters inland in the Angus Glens make for an adventure playground for watersports enthusiasts. The fantastic waterfall at Reekie Linn is a popular destination for canyoning. Canyoning involves sliding, scrambling, abseiling and swimming down gorges and through waterfalls.

The Ancrum Outdoor Activity Centre in Dundee provides a range of activity programmes throughout the Dundee & Angus area, including canyoning, gorgewalking, kayaking, sailing and much more.

Pleasure trips and sea angling trips are also available on the bracing North Sea - so test your sea legs and enjoy the tang of the salt in the air.
