With lots of artists based locally, there's always fascinating works of art in the galleries alongside history museums and visitor centres.

Sir Walter Scott's Courtroom in Selkirk is where Scott sat as a sheriff and is now a museum which explores his life and writings. Halliwell's House Museum, also in Selkirk, is an award-winning museum housed in a former ironmonger's shop. It tells the fascinating story of Selkirk, with the lives of the 'Souters' and the Flodden Flag, brought home by the only man to survive the disatrous battle in 1513, which the town celebrates annually with the Common Riding event.

The Johnnie Armstrong Gallery near Hawick is a gallery and Celtic goldsmiths, which boasts an impressive collection of weaponry and armour, dating back from the times of the Borders Reivers.
