Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games

Get ready for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games with exciting events and a packed cultural programme.

From 23 July to 3 August 2014, the eyes of the world will be on Glasgow as it hosts the XX Commonwealth Games. A modern city of culture and sport, forward-thinking and creative, Glasgow is one of the UK's largest cities and has a lively heart and warm people. You’ll get to experience it all first-hand as you watch sporting history unfold.

Glasgow is hosting one of the most important sporting events in the world. The Commonwealth Games have been a permanent fixture in sport since the first was held in Canada all the way back in 1930.

Edinburgh played host to the Games in both 1970 and 1986 in which Scotland won gold medals in the men's and women's 10,000 m respectively. Now it's the turn of Glasgow to welcome athletes from around the world as they compete for medal glory across 17 sports.

With the venues all but complete and the final preparations well underway, you can almost hear the rising roar of cheering at Hampden Park as the euphoric crowds see world record results. Feel the adrenaline pump as you take your place among the spectators at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and watch as Scotland takes on the world’s finest cyclists in the team sprint and keirin.
