Flora & Fauna in February

Clear, crisp days at this time of year offer good conditions for spotting some of Scotland's most impressive birds. Common birds of prey like buzzards can be found across the country, while Scotland's Highlands and islands offer ideal habitats for awe-inspiring golden eagles and white-tailed eagles.

Also known as the sea-eagle, the white-tailed eagle is the largest bird of prey in the UK, the fourth largest eagle in the world and a truly impressive sight. Hunted to extinction in the 1800s, the white-tailed eagle was successfully reintroduced to selected areas of Scotland in recent times - it's not only avid bird-watchers who will appreciate the power and beauty of these birds.
