Influenza A - H1N1: update re Scotland and the UK

Scotland remains very much open for business and continues to welcome visitors as usual.

As of June 10, the UN's World Health Organisation (WHO) alert on H1N1 has been set at Level Six and H1N1 outbreaks continue to be monitored around the world.

The move to Level Six does not mean that the WHO thinks the virus has become more serious. It simply means that the extent of global spread now fulfils the definition of a pandemic.

There are no travel restrictions to or around the UK but visitors may wish to refer to any travel guidance issued by their own country’s government. Similarly, there are no restrictions on any gatherings or events.

A public information campaign has been launched in Scotland and across the UK with advice on how to prevent any infection spreading. Everyone is being encouraged to take simple infection control precautions such as hand washing and covering their mouth when they cough or sneeze.

VisitScotland remains in regular contact with the Scottish Government, its agencies and VisitBritain to monitor the situation.

An Influenza A - H1N1 information line is available on 0800 1 513 513 and a dedicated team is available on NHS 24 on 08454 242424.
