With spring firmly in the air, the Easter holidays provide the perfect opportunity to take a break and enjoy Scotland’s great outdoors. After a day indulging in many seasonal activities, relax in the ideal accommodation of your choice.

Seasonal things to do

Many attractions open their doors in March and April with a new spring in their step, offering seasonal experiences which keep people coming back throughout the year.

In the Scottish Borders, daffodils are synonymous with Paxton House, an 18th century stately home set within gardens, parklands and woods. Similarly, Culzean Castle on the south coast of Ayrshire is famous for its great swathes of bluebells from mid-March.

In spring you can also witness the birth of lambs at the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride near Glasgow, and see thousands of migrating birds including barnacle geese flocking to Balranald in the Outer Hebrides.

If you’re keen to enjoy the lighter days and outdoor activities, there are plenty package holiday and touring options which can help you have an exhilarating break.

Easter time events

During the Easter school holidays, country houses, parks, castles and other attractions, such as Edinburgh Zoo and the Falkirk Wheel, often hold themed events with Easter egg hunts, spring trails, craft sessions and more.

Other popular events include Edinburgh International Science Festival, and Glasgow International Comedy Festival, and sporting events, including The King of Sevens in the Scottish Borders. This exciting circuit of Rugby 7s tournaments takes place in towns including Melrose, where the sport began in 1883.

Where to stay in spring

There is a great range of accommodation to choose from during an Easter break, from forest cabins and camping and caravan sites, to hotels, B&Bs and self-catering options with stunning views across mountains, lochs and beaches.
