Overview

This area of Sutherland, in the Northern Highlands is very much "Duthaic Mhic Aaidh" (the land of the Mackay's) and is renowned the world over for its breathtaking natural beauty.

The cottage which was originally a crofting cottage, truly has pride of place with Atlantic sea views to the left. Watch Hill and the Kyle of Tongue are in the foreground with Ben Loyal (Queen of Scottish Mountains), and Ben Hope (most northern of the Munroes) providing spectacular views to the right.

Talmine is a hamlet but has the essential Post Office/General store and the even more essential Bar/Restaurant "The Craggan" which serves excellent local seafood and game and is located 200 meters to the rear of the cottage. The village of Tongue is less than 10 minutes drive away with a larger store and further choice of dining.

This area of Sutherland is one of the least densely populated areas in Europe which makes it ideal for those looking for tranquillity in a picturesque setting. For those with more active pursuits in mind, fishing and hunting are available in season and hill walking for all abilities can be found nearby.

There are many spectacular beaches and coves in the area. Long golden sands, can be found directly below the cottage, for those prepared to walk back up the brae, or Talmine Bay in very close proximity is accessible by car.

The cottage, which can sleep up to six adults, has been completely renovated in 2007 and comprises, downstairs of porch, living/dining room, fully equipped kitchen, second living room with sofa bed.
