Scalpay has a bridge connecting it to the mainland of Harris and the house is 8 miles from Tarbert.
There is a regular bus service to and from the Island, which connects with the car/passenger ferries in Tarbert, Stornoway and Leverburgh. The Tarbert ferry sails via Uig in Skye and Lochmaddy in Uist. The Stornoway sails to Ullapool and the Leverburgh ferry in South Harris sails to Berneray in North Uist.
