Garlieston village itself was purpose built back in the late 1700, by one Lord Garlies.
The village grew, and trading commenced. A harbour rail connection allowed easy and quick access to the steamers to the Isle of Man (boats still run once a year today).
Between 1941 and 1944, Garlieston became part of the 'Mulberry Harbour tests', and was used to test some of the 'floating harbours' that eventually lead to the success of the D-day landings (some of the failed floating harbours can still be found on Rigg Bay, approximately 1 mile from here
Where the new houses on the harbour stand today, was once a mill, producing animal feeds for the local farmers.
Now, Garlieston is becoming a centre for yachting and leisure.
It is surrounded by history, beauty and wildlife, to mention but a few things.
The stunning Galloway Forrest is just minutes away.
Walking, nature, golfing, sailing, eating, cycling etc., etc. Or just plain relaxing, this area of Scotland does it all and more besides.Thank You
